I'm going through the exact same shit. Granted I can't animate as well as you ;P , I always find the tendency to make every single detail perfect, which takes more time than you can imagine.

Why don't you just draw the stills of the characters well but put less detail in the inbetweens? I doubt people would pay much attention to those.

And that's why I never got into animation.

Harry, what about inbetweeners?????????????????????????

I bet you start your day thinking "Go Animate."

what about the Saturday morning cartoon project

<3<3<3

I second deathink. <3

You are one of the biggest animation inspirations on the entire internet and to my life, you don't need to rush for us because we'll love anything you put out there, just remember that.... getting to know you by your humor and animations has made me respect you as a person even though we have never met... take it easy <3

Harry you the man! You've never failed to make me laugh in a single animation of yours. And knowing this struggle, we the fans still love you ever more for your sincerity. :)

If you're running the clock for us, we can wait. As much as we'd advocate shortcuts so you could finish your stuff as soon as possible, I'm sure you'd always push yourself to go the extra mile. We appreciate you for that, but whatever your decision, we're still here.

We love you man!

Time is indeed gay; I don't mean in the sexual sense (now don't be ridiculous, Harry) but in that sense teenaged boys in the midst of puberty use it to convey and project their insecurities onto others - "You are gay, Tim". Tim, here, is the short form for the boy's name "Timothy," and not meant as a pun on the word "time," though it could perhaps have been construed as such. I mean, I hope it's apparent it just happened to be the first name that popped into my head - it's not as if I agonized over the choice, though I obviously spent some moments reflecting over it, having typed it out.

For what it's worth, I think you could considerably lower the quality of your work and still kick ass.

22 hours for 24 fully rendered frames? WITH BACKGROUND?!? by...yourself. Holy Grail on a stick, dude...that's about 54 minutes for the sketch, clean-up, color, and shadows/lighting= about 13.5 minutes for each process, assuming you work on each part equally. Non-stop, and not including the backgrounds. Granted you don't mess up, or have interruptions, or worse...computer issues. How do you do it, man? Unfortunately though, it maybe time to part-time hire in-betweeners and clean-up artists, or outsource (yuck), reuse shots, create flimsy anime stills with just the mouth animation, and looped scenes. Personally, I find these options stale, but if there is anything I try to cut to fit time schedule, it's usually the detail first...but you gotta do what you gotta do. You've inspired so many people to animate, including me, so maybe you can reach out to Harry-Tier animators on here to lend you a hand. Your art is always beautiful, and whatever happens, I'm sure whatever you produce will shine to an audience who aren't always as animation savvy. I wish you the best of luck.

I would recommend Patreon. People pay on YouTube every time a new video is upload.
I'm an animator myself, so I understand how you feel, even though my animation style's notably cruder.
I wish you the best of luck, Harry.

I have a lot of problems with this post. It's like you're trying to teach a little common sence to your fans and followers (wich I'm quite sure a lot of people on the internet could use) by explaining your situation as an independant animatormanbeastbossman. But this is looking kinda like an apology to a bunch internet-buttholes, wich is utter and complete bullcr@p.
Fans who nag, whine and complain at you should be f*cking grateful for you making delicious animation-sensations.

The most beef I have with this post is that "just-about-TV-worthy-for-1993" nonsense you said. If you look at the 'TV-worthy' cartoons you have on TV today. Your animations make the recent TV-ones bent over on the ground with the pants down, having the bum region most heavily humiliated without any lube, or even spit for that matter, throwing five bucks on it afterwards.

And if you do want your animations to be on TV with all of the deft grace, flawless draftsmanship, clever colour palette, inspired design choices and underlying racism. You'll need a whole army of evil mighty workminions and slaves. And I'd rather have to wait for the few mini christmas-present-like moments you post a new animation than have it on a regular boring scedule and not have it be all greasy and Harry.

just sayin...

I second Guidodinho's comment.

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Your humour as well as your rather fine style will shine through regardless.

Perhaps go for a blend of high quality animation and more still frames where you think it is required.

I feel your pain my friend! I don't get to work on my animations daily like you do, but I understand the long and agonizing hours it takes to make such good quality art and animations.

It almost drives you insane! believe me, I should know.

This is coming from another fellow artist and animator, someday you'll get where you want to be with your career plans, we all will someday. Remember, its not about the destination its about the journey. Animate on Harry!

So... you dub yourself as an internet content creator, I think you are smarter than that. Take a break, read a book, evolve.

Personally, i know shit about animation in any form. I am just an ordinary consumer. No wait, consumers actually pay for sth.
What i am, probaly, trying to say is: Most people would love to see less projects with larger intervals and in "lower quality", rather than witnessing the downfall of an animator aka "going nuts".

The insatiable audience is squealing more and more (i include myself) for so many reasons. Personaly i am so hungry for it, because i don't have the slightiest notion of creativity and therefore enjoy such work so much.

Anyway, i hope we all can enjoy your work and therefore your well being!

First, I'd like to apologize for adding to an old conversation, but assuming from the lack of news that nothing much has changed since, maybe it's still as applicable now.
I empathize with your dilemma - but the only remotely helpful thing I feel an appreciator of your work can do here is offer options and opinions, which some have done and I'd like to add to. Brevity is not my strong suit though.
Donation is a legitimate way to show appreciation - feel free to use it. Many ways are available, the mechanics aren't too difficuilt to get used to.
Patreon is a good way to be supported by genuinely loyal fans, it will however tend to lead to a split between those and casual like-the-content-nevermind-who-diddit consumers.
Cooperation with fellow artists may speed up work, but the additional communication overhead, lack of creative self-determination and sharing of the proceeds makes it difficult to say the least.
Changing the tools of the trade is expensive in terms of buying and learning to use them - it may however lead to new and hopefully more efficient ways of creation. To many, Flash is a way of life more than a means to an end, but there are other mediums. With today's tools, even interactivity can be added to a creation without the need to study (much) programming. Interactive art bridges the gap from animation to game. Adding gamification (easter eggs, badges, etc. - plenty of support for that here on Newgrounds) can also serve to inspire a new kind of interest in your work.
By the way, thanks for #CHANGETHEBEES - "...Dr. Beeeeeeees!" has become a buzzzzzword for me and a few others - been hoping for more. I look forward to your next work - whenever it may be. Good fans are patient.
