"7 Reviews!?"

date: June 1, 2008

That is criminal. I laughed out loud at this. I've always loved your stuff man, Homer.swf is fantastic.

I see you haven't contributed much in a while before this, does this mean we're gonna get a whole stack of new Stack toons? If so I shall make merry.

Minushi - Chapter 18

"Ribbin' Gibb"

date: May 24, 2008

I admire anyone that sees something creative through to the end, and tackling a feature length animation by yourself is an astounding achievement.

Compared to 99 percent of the great wash of crap which ends up on this site (to which I am a proud contributor) Minushi is almost a breath of fresh air. Making movies by yourself is hard I know, but for a project which took you 4 years, this is pretty underwhelming.

Weak sauce acting, ugly design, botched sound and bad pacing have been your biggest gremlins. I wish you the best in regards to future projects and hope that you've learnt a lot from this (and that chapter 18 is as lame as chapter 1 purely for the purpose of continuity).

My biggest beef with Minushi however, is not the series itself, but you hocking it to us as 'An animated motion picture'. Looks more like a flash series to me. Don't dress it up as anything else, if anything you're setting people up for disappointment. Take a leaf out of James Farr's book, Xombie is a badass series, he doesnt need to call it an 'animated motion picture'. I am never going to compare your work to that of Miyazaki or Brad Bird, don't ask me to. I know you might have meant it to be viewed in one sitting, but who the fuck is going to do that? That would mean I'd have to buy the...

DVD!?!? A DVD that will cost me 20 bucks and for which I will have to wait 2 weeks to arrive, of something I could watch in it's entirety online for free? Your target audience are penniless 13 year olds dude, it's vanity publishing and I think you're going to be disappointed. I wouldn't press any more than 10 if I were you, no matter how "pine forest like" they smell. Even the extras can be viewed online.

And what's with that? There are more 'Making Of' documentaries for Minushi than there are for fucking Lawrence of Arabia. Showing how you record your voice 'actor' in a fucking closet with a towel wrapped round the microphone is ridiculous. I went halves today on 'buy one get one free' cookies with my housemate for lunch because I'm shit poor, and still my setup is more pro than that dude. Once again, it's just more delusional 'motion picture' wank. Robert Downey Jr is not in Minushi, it doesn't need 50,000 making ofs.

Keep it up Mr. Gibb, fuck the haters and make Minushi 2 if you want, it's a flawed but decent enough series and next time might be a lot better. But for the love of Mr. Tinker, don't call it something like 'A cinematic epic in 19 movements'. It's a flash series, flash series have play buttons, the sound usually sucks and they're free. That's why they rock.

I don't see how this can have only 4 reviews
And a crappy score
And a crappy average rating
And barely any votes
and hardly any views
And a completely fucking lame score rank
And an absolutely dire popularity rank

I just can't see how that could possibly be the case

Virginia Tech Shootout!

"I don't think you're a bastard..."

date: May 22, 2008

You know this isn't a glossy piece of work so im not going to comment on the visuals, you've got skills man, I'm not going to blow you over it.

Can't say I agree with this receiving a place in the 'Bastards' collection. As far as I can see this wasn't 'making fun' of the Virgina Tech shootings, just commenting on it.

"Made my fucking day"

submission: Smodpast
date: February 10, 2008

God I loved this, one of the best NG experiences I've had in a long time, just an absolute gem.

I'm bang up to date on my Smodcasts and am a big fan of Smith, when I saw this on the frontpage I honestly didn't think it was going to be anything special - but I was wrong. I was like thalydomide incest wrong.

The caricature of Smith was perfect, so much better than the caricature in the clerks TV show, the details were gorgeous, seeing you add to the actual recording with your choice of imagery rather than just accompanying it was why this was so great. The hair metal scorpion and 'black' widow actually had me lolling rl.

So so so so so good.

Loved Flanagan's dog, /Favourited

February 10, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks man, appreciated all of that. Yeah the Flannagan joke was a real spur of the moment thing. In fact anytime you see a joke that isn't immediately talked about in the podcast (such as the dog bite, scorpion killing the spider, Mosier throwing crap off his desk) were things that I thought would make the scene better.

To all those complaining about me adding in more humor, they don't understand how much I already added to it. Yeah I suppose I could animate an old man falling down a flight of stairs for those uninterested in the podcast, but that wouldn't benefit the cartoon any and there are plenty of other cartoons like that available on the site already.

"Creepy and Awesome"

date: January 18, 2008

Backgrounds were really well observed, the animation and colours worked superbly, it's great to see some real kick ass animation on this site - I do wish you hadn't resorted to tweens for those several shots and kept it consistent but that's a minor complaint.

Sound was fitting, Concept was very bizarre and I think i liked that the most. If she hadn't run away from his little shrivelled cock would he have still turned in to a skin sash?? That's a question i don't ask much...

Author's Response:

With the first design, although it was the talk that he extracted a cork from all and all things, and dedicated them in his hands, as a result of considering run, it became such a form. It is regrettable that the scale of the talk became somewhat small.

The One Layer Collab

"Pointless"

date: January 17, 2008

No one cares that this animation was made in one layer, the fact that you hindered yourselves massively in your means of production is not impressive, nor does it add to the film in any way.

It's just another random collab...

Spider-Powers For Xmas

"Wow!"

date: December 31, 2007

Totally awesome. I am blown away by the fact a 15 year old can act and write songs this well, the animation was...well... South Park, so I'd reccommend you do your own thing and find a unique style of your own, but as limited as the animation was - it did the job. Shame this wasn't wrapped up in one episode but i know how hard that can be, I am looking forward to the sequel big style...

And whats with "The frame by frame animation of the web shooting up at the ceiling is the shot I'm most proud of. Go ahead. Watch it frame by frame. It's gorgeous."

...not one for modesty eh?

Just joshin' ya, happy new year dude
