RIP Edd Gould 1988-2012

Posted by HappyHarry - March 27th, 2012

As people are now becoming sadly aware, my friend and fellow animator/filmmaker Edd Gould, creator of the wildly popular Eddsworld series has lost his battle with cancer and passed away aged 23 on the 25th of March 2012.

Though an often shared sentiment when speaking of the deceased, it has to be said that Edd really, truly was one of the gentlest, sweetest people I have ever met who never had anything bad to say about anyone. Though it is an incredible shame that someone so talented, and relentlessly hard working has had their life cut short please remember that in his brief 23 years Edd reached millions of people with his art and brightened up their lives with his work. He did more in his all-too-brief life than many are ever capable of and we should celebrate him for it. Well done Edd.

We love you.

Fellow Eddsworld stars Tom and Matt put together this touching video tribute, please watch it.

He actually kept working even in his poor state of health. That's fucking dedication.
RIP Edd

This is going to come as a shock, but his cartoons never really appealed to me. (Especially compared to what Randy and Ben did.)

I remember when I first discovered his animations. I remember watching his video where he told the world he had cancer. And I'll remember today when I learned of his death. Even though he's gone, he's been immortalised online and thus, many more will come across the day they discover his work; long past his death. R.I.P Edd. Love you. <3

Shit :( is sad to hear that.

Although I don't frequent NG often anymore, I remember Eddsworld as being one of the main successful funny flash series on this site that I envied so much. A particularly good Halloween episode comes to mind which I will rewatch. It sounds like he was such a genuinely kindhearted soul too.

:__( R.I.P Edd,you're my most favorited animator of ALL-Time.I watch your cartoons since the WTFuture got uploaded. And I watched all of your episodes already.Thank you for entertaining us with your cartoon, and thank you for everything

Over,
Firm

Oh my god, I had no idea!

He will be greatly missed... I never talked to him but you could see he was genuine. Always loved his work. It's kinda a creepy thought that we will never see eddsworld again.. Well I'm sure tom and matt will upload stuff but... Never by edd... He shall be remembered forever!

He may be gone, but while he was with us, he was a great inspiration to many. While most people look on his death and think tragedy, I'd like to take a moment to reiterate what AlmightyHans said earlier: He may have died young and had lots of talent that you may think "went to waste," but for the time he had on this Earth, he accomplished a lot,

He fucking did it. Good job.

I didn't know Edd personally, but this loss actually hits pretty hard. He was one of the first great animators/comedians on the Internet and inspired me to begin my acting career, and it was always a dream of mine to voice act in an animation of his once I had made a name for myself. Even though I will never live that dream, it's been nice to have followed his work, and I might be an atheist, but if heaven does exist, well then he's up there drinking original Coca-Cola from a glass bottle, sitting next to a pool of Cola, and animating for everyone in the after life. Even though I critique while I'm on Newgrounds, I've truthfully never had a sour word towards an Eddsworld animation, they were brilliantly done, and once the first half of the last Eddisode is released, I will applaud the moment it's over no matter where I am, and I can assure you that it will be great, and even if it weren't the best, it's still an Eddisode, and it will still have that witty, charming, and puntacular humour everyone has come to love the past few years. Edd, you will be missed greatly by all of whom you've inspired, helped to greatness, and have been a helluva nice guy to -Staadsy

I never knew him personally but his movies an animation were amazing, i've watched all of his videos, there great!!. My condolences to his friends and family. Edd you will be missed greatly by everyone. Enjoy your Coke dude =).

Some people are really insensitive, but who am I to tell some one off about respecting the dead. Anyway, Eddsworld really inspired me as a young teen on the internet. It made me sit in my moms basement, draw horrible cartoons, embarrass my self at school, and become socially awkward and insecure. So much so that I never uploaded a single flash to newgrounds. I went on to graduate from high school @ the age of 17. I regret nothing. Thank you Edd.

Farewell, Edd.
You will be remembered.

That's both Edd and Randy Solem in a short amount of time. What a shame :<

I owe him so much.

It's just a random comment in the internet, but I think that's the only way for me to pay some respect towards this amazing young man. Good job Tom and Matt, the video is just lovely. I never met Edd in real life, but even through his animations he reached me in a deep part of me, where he always had a part and always will be. Everytime when I'm watching an Eddtoon, I'll remember him. And I hope others will watch these, because they're worth it.
Farewell Edd, may you get all the Cola you desire.

i had a bad day, saw this. worst day ever... R.I.P Edd

Edd was a great person who made great animations, comics, and lots of different things. I never heard that he had cancer, and it was shocking to hear that Edd died 3 days ago. It is unfortunate that Edd has lost the battle against cancer. I never knew him much, but I wanted to meet him personally and befriend him, for he was a great person. I never saw a comment on his animations with Edd replying negatively. Edd was a great person who inspired many people with his animations. He was one of the most talented animators in Newgrounds. He will be remembered by many. His family, friends, and fans will know Edd until they pass away. I am very sad to know Edd lost the battle. Edd and I may not be friends, but I will always remember him. As the video says, "Edd may be gone, but his world will keep spinning." May you rest in peace, Edd. We will always remember you.

That's terrible! Why him?
It should of been some stupid rich spoiled teenage girl instead >:'(
sad now.

Edd was a great guy.
He recorded some voice clips for me for a Flash I was working on years ago.
I regret dropping the Flash now.
I still have his voice clips, I will probably use them in a short tribute flash.
